Cleanings and Exams

Your six month recall appointment is the most important part of maintaining good oral health. Even if you brush and floss regularly, keeping a routine of regularly scheduled dental cleanings and exams is a good way to prevent and detect tooth decay.

The cleaning, formally called a prophylaxis, consists of removal of plaque build-up, calculus, coronal polish, and flossing. At this appointment, you will also recieve oral hygiene instructions. You may also receive a fluoride treatment, determined as needed. This aids in strengthening the enamel on your teeth to help prevent tooth decay.

Radiographs may be taken at each scheduled visit, frequency is determined as needed. These aid the Doctor in diagnosing any decay that is not seen upon visual exam. For children, the radiographs can also show the different stages of tooth eruption.

Your appointment for your next recall is scheduled before you leave. Even though it may be six months until you are due, we want to help you be successful in maintaining your dental health by keeping regularly scheduled visits. You will be sent a reminder card one month prior to your appointment.
